I’ve Got
by Harper Meader
I’ve got the clothes you left behind last week
Rolled up in a ball beside my head,
So I can smell the perfume that you wear
When I’m lying in my bed.
I’ve got that picture of you on my bedside stand,
The one where you’re holding back your hair.
When you give me that look, you can lead,
I’ll follow anywhere.
If you call me tonight, I’ll sing you a love song
To carry you through another night.
I need to hear you tell me it won’t be too much longer
‘Til you’re home, and everything’s alright.
I’ve got this memory that won’t leave my mind,
A picnic and the wine is nearly gone.
A hummingbird flew close, and made you smile,
More lovely than the sun.
I’ve got this thing you said when we were holding hands,
I wrote it down to get me through some storms.
You said, “I’m most at home when I am in your heart,
And when I’m in your arms.”
I’ve got an empty space that’s shaped like you,
Here beside me while I try to sleep.
The peace of mind you bring me when you’re home
Is all I really need.
I’ve got myself put down for one more night,
Lying here alone with my phone,
Hoping you will call, and carry me
Through another night alone.

Sweet Insomnia
By Harper Meader Capo 2 first five strings
If you would sing to me
The way you did that day when we
Awoke to find the morning sun
Had poured its golden light upon
The ocean that was rolling
Just beyond our canvas door
Then I could sleep…
I can’t sleep…
Sometimes…
Lying here next to you!
If you would wrap your arms
Around me, holding me from harm
And whisper stories from the days
Before we learned each other’s ways
And tell me it’s a blessing how
We found each other now
Then I could sleep…
If you would run your hand
Across me like you’re smoothing sand
And spell out with your fingers on
My chest that I’m your rising sun,
If you would smooth my cares away
With fingers (through my hair) through my beard
Then I could sleep…
If it weren’t for how
Your hair is curling on your brow
And how, asleep, you sometimes smile,
I can’t help but sit up awhile.
Except for how your sleeping form
Keeps the whole room warm
Then I could sleep…

Havamal By Harper Meader
‘Tis better unasked nor offered overmuch,
Oh, how a gift looks for gain!
‘Tis better unasked nor offered overmuch,
So Odin said when the earth began.
Cho: Pass the horn from hand to hand,
Pass it along from friend to friend!
Do you know the tales of old?
Will you speak the truth you know?
Our fathers learned so very long ago,
How to tell a friend from a foe, (2x)
(Cho)
To a false friend ay, a far way ‘tis, 1
Though his house be reared by the road.
To a stanch friend ay, a straight way leads, Though far he have fared from thee!
(Cho)
No great things needs give to a man, as verse 2
Love on small things depends.
With half a loaf and a half-drained horn,
I oft won a worthy friend! (2x)
(Cho)
Hold not the horn too long, but drink thy share; as verse 1
Speak sparingly at need:
You’ll have respect, ay, be handled fair, If early you seek your bed.
(Cho)
The coward hopes he’ll ever live as verse 2
Steering far from strife,
But old age leaves him not long in peace,
Though spears may spare his life. (2x)
(Cho)
Hold your tongue for the hoary bard, as verse 1
The eldest has much to tell.
For like your dried goods, aging hard, His wisdom is seasoned well.
(cho)
No man’s undone, e’en at death’s door, as verse 2
Some with good sons are blessed.
Some with kinsmen, and some with coffers full,
Some with deeds well-done! (2x) (Chorus 3x)

Ride Like the Wind
By Harper Meader
Partial capo 2
I saw an old man,
Years borne by his cane,
Beard blown in the wind.
He watched a horse limping
Swaybacked, said to him,
Our hearts don’t know how we’re lame.
Our hearts don’t know how we’re lame!
We could ride like the wind!
As though days never end!
I dreamed a young colt,
Nose turned to the wind,
Hooves like sparks flashing bright.
And then a tall man,
Lithe like the youth within
With fists full of mane jumped astride,
With fists full of mane jumped astride!
And they ride like the wind!
And their days never end!

About Love
By Harper Meader
Capo3
I’ve heard it said that any fool
Can find a rhyme on a barstool.
Let me sing about love____
Colors fade without love___.
When you’ve seen the day arrive to light your lover’s eyes
And known that you need nothing more than this
And that day comes that you’re all alone when you rise
Can you imagine going on without her kiss?
I’m too drunk to drink a second verse,
Thought it was better but it’s getting worse.
Let me sing about love_____
Nothing shines without love___.
I won’t go until they shut the lights and sweep the floor,
I can’t draw a breath in that empty room.
At least she took her things, because I couldn’t face the clothes she wore,
And I’ll walk a while before I wander home.
Mister, make sure my glass is full,
I’ve invented whiskey spectacles,
Let me sing about love,
I can’t go home without love.

Two Good Wheels
By Harper Meader
Regular tuning, capo on first five strings.
There’s not a thing between us now
And the edge of town
But a couple of crossroads and the lights
Are gonna be green,
Won’t you come with me,
Facing the breeze,
And we’ll just roll!
Two good wheels feel like wings,
Can’t be worried ‘bout anything…
When we roll!
I think I know when I ride,
How the eagle feels in flight…
When we roll!
All we need is a tank topped up full,
And a blanket roll,
Got the saddlebags filled up with some wine,
Bit of bread and some cheese,
Won’t you come with me,
While we head for the sea,
And we’ll just roll!

Sun Shining on Dream
By Harper Meader
Sun shining on dream
Brightens its roses and gold.
Wakening I’m longing to see
The wonder this dream let me hold!
If I open my eyes to this morn
And find I’m alone, how can this be borne?
Clinging to tattered scraps of dreaming
With sunlight through the window streaming.

The Golden Mean
By Harper Meader
The Golden Mean is somewhere in between
Perfection and what the Eye of God has seen.
In this world of absolutes,
There are things we can’t define,
Like who we’ll toast with our final cup of wine.
Who we’ll toast with our final cup of wine.
But I know that when I’m dancing with you,
The answer lies in the circle of my arms,
Every step we take on the dance floor we move
One more spiral nearer to the truth.
One more spiral nearer to the truth.
The Golden Mean’s a kind of alchemy,
That cleaves the mind to what the heart can see,
I’m the kind of man who wants
His plans and maps all aligned
But I’ll find my answers only if you’re mine.
I’ll find my answers only if you’re mine.
But I know that when I’m dancing with you,
The answer lies in the circle of my arms,
Every step we take on the dance floor we move
One more spiral nearer to the truth.
One more spiral nearer to the truth.

Forever and a Day
by Eric Robbins 2012
capo 2
Forever won’t be long enough
For all the love we have to share.
I hope forever and a day
Will be enough to get us there.
Can I sing to you tomorrow?
Can I sing to you next year? Oh…
Can I sing to you when we’re both settled
In our rocking chairs?
Love, I have a thousand songs,
And they’ll take a while to write.
Every one of them tells how
You are lovely in my sight.
If I’m lucky I will live
To see at least a thousand moons.
If I’m blessed then I will see
All the rest of them with you.

It’s Our Day
By Harper Meader
Partial capo on 2
We worship the sun, and we flirt with the waves,
Take it in turns keeping seagulls away,
The bravest among us go looking for caves,
And what we leave the tide sweeps away.
Cho: It’s our day in the sun,
It’s our day by the sea,
It’s our time to leave tracks in the sand,
It’s our eternity.
I heard a man say, one day’s not enough,
But that’s the root of his sorrow, oh,
By the end of day, the tide will call his bluff,
And someone else will be here tomorrow.
Chorus
If you bring a picnic, and I bring the wine,
The sailboats will dance for us out past the spray,
And just for a moment, it’s all yours and mine,
And no tide can take that away!
Chorus.
